YouCanDo Guides “are the culmination of years of work to condense decades of experience in helping communities change. They are freely available to anyone under a creative commons licence.”

We were asked to design a set of materials consisting of folders, leaflets, guide sheets etc. The material had to have a raw everyday feel to it and not an overdesigned or typical glossly image. It needed to appeal to everyone and reflect an honestly and simplicity. Using everyday objects such as notebooks or pieces of paper that showed handwritten information gave the feeling of just looking over someones desk rather than looking through a traditional brochure. This theme incorporated information on computer screens, flipcharts and other items that display text to communicate the chosen message in a variety of ways. Working with Gallomanor this theme was used on 9 different guide leaflets, an overall programme guide and 9 guide overviews.

“Each Guide is made up of activity sheets, presentations, facilitator manuals and feedback forms. Some include more material than others; some put more emphasis on knowledge sharing, others on encouraging team work. Each Guide includes all the materials needed to put it to use immediately.”
