Illustrator / Artist Interview 10 – Pat Perry


1. How long have you been an illustrator/artist?

Well I’m pretty young still, but I started my career as an artist when I was 2, drawing monster trucks.I had a good experience at that age, and I think the momentum never really stopped.

2. What inspires your work?
I know everyone says this in one way or another, but definitely my environment. People around me and things I see, phrases I hear, and Michigan. Michigan is the state I grew up in, and I can’t deny my love for the place, or the prominence it has in my work. Relationships in people, and wild personalities also really interest me, and I have tried to portray these characteristics many a time. I’ve always loved camping, and am always pretty inspired by forests, fields and creatures too. (more…)

1. How long have you been an illustrator?
Professionally?  For about 9 years now.

2. What inspires your work?
Man, all types of inspiration.  Nature.  Man’s interaction with and so called “dominance” over nature. Tabloid magazines and crappy TV programming.  Advertising, especially old ads from the 30′s – 50′s. Fantasy art and comics.. Books are a big one.. Other artists certainly (more…)

Illustrator / Designer Interview 7 – Scott Jackson

1. How long have you been an illustrator?
I left collage where I studied Graphic Design in 1989 and since then Illustration has always been part of what I’ve done. My first job was at a printers and I used to spend week after week making isometric illustrations of screws and bolts and later on I worked at a newspaper as a kind of human clipart book. Hardly glamourous. About six years ago I got a job working at a gift and greeting card company as a designer/illustrator and that’s where I started illustrating in earnest. Laser cut calendar designed by Rob Ryan

I regularly receive various samples and brochures from printers as an example of their work.

But I’ve got to say that this is the best sample I’ve received this year so far (ok we are only two weeks into the year, granted!).
